2007/10 Fender Japan TC-72 Telecaster Black
with new Hard Case
A very popular and versatile Telecaster from Fender Japan. This solid Ash bodied, Maple necked guitar boasts a nice humbucker at the neck position with a traditional single coil pickup at the bridge position giving you the best of both worlds.
The guitar looks great & the build quality is as you would expect. When the guitar came in there was some light scratching around the body & pickguard showing evidence of use. The lacquer was worn at the edge of the fretboard in a couple of places. (see pics)There was also some scuffing on the chrome Humbucker pickup cover but overall, the guitar was in very good condition. Please check out the photos in the gallery where there is also a catalogue photo from Japan confirming spec
Here's what Fender say about this guitar
As you may have gathered by the name, the design of the Fender '72 Telecaster Custom takes us back to the early ‘70s, but it’s what was happening before that time that is interesting.
Fender had previously been pigeon-holed as a single-coil pickup company, while Gibson held the humbucker audience. This lead to Fender players in the late ‘60s and very early ‘70s hot-rodding their, originally single-coil, instruments with a humbucker in the neck. This model is the recreation of Fender’s answer to the need of a Tele with an SH pickup configuration.
Fans of the Tele were after a hot-rodded version of the model they already knew and loved, so the classic body shape, carved from Alder or Ash, stayed the same, giving a familiar form for the innovative additions to reside in. The body of the Fender Classic Series 72 Telecaster Custom has been coated with a sleek Black polyester finish that gives it a distinguished feel alongside the contrasting fingerboard colour.
‘70S NECK, BRIDGE, AND TUNERS
Another reliable classic of the era, which is still seen in today’s instruments, is the maple neck, shaped to comfortable and highly playable Oval Shape profile, and finished in a smooth gloss urethane finish. This is kept in place by an “F” stamped, three-bolt neck plate with Micro-Tilt and it also sports a bullet truss rod nut.
Standing out from the black of the body finish is a maple fingerboard, which gives you 21 vintage-style frets to navigate, with black dot position inlays marking your path.
As mentioned earlier, the Fender Classic Series 72 Telecaster Custom is set up with a SH configuration. The pickups that make up the configuration are a Standard single-coil Tele pickup in the bridge position and a Wide Range humbucker in the neck.
Evoking the original model’s design, this dual gives you the classic Tele tone from the single coil, while switching to the humbucker offers a fatter sound with surprising clarity. Switch the pickup selector to the middle position and you’ll a luxurious, warm tone with a bit of bite.
Each of the pickups can also be governed with finite control, as each has independent volume and tone controls. These come in the form of black, skirted amp knobs.

As stated many times, due to courier damage, all my guitars are shipped in hard cases (usually new) this one being a plain black one. I do have a tweed option and these are a little dearer (extra £10). If you prefer that, please email me for details. If you are collecting, I'm happy to knock off the price of the case (About £30) & I may even have an old gig bag you can have to take it away in
So to sum up, a superb Fender Telecaster Custom from Fender Japan. This model is near impossible to find here in the UK.
