1983 JV Squier by Fender Stratocaster CST-55R in Lake Placid Blue
with new Hard Case
The JV Squier series guitars are well documented on the internet & all of the information you can need is there. A lot of it is on the excellent "21frets.com" website where you will find this particular model listed.
When Fender Japan first started producing the "Squier" range in 1982/3 the Stratocaster models that were stamped up for export were really the standard '62 & '57 style guitars which had USA pickups fitted. The Japanese were also making JV Squiers for their domestic market & there were more variations with the SST & CST ranges included. CST simply stands for "Current Stratocasters" and were copies of the guitars available in the USA at the time. 3 bolt necks, bullet trussrods & large headstocks were the Strats of the day & this is a copy of one of those guitars. What you have to remember is that ALL these guitars were built to exactly the same standard in the same factory (Fujigen-Gakki) the only difference in the export models was the inclusion of USA pickups. The CST-55 was the top of this range & as such is fitted with "hotter" SQ5 "Hotrod" pickups
This particular guitar is not mint. It has been well used and has a few battle scars along with some aging to the woods. In my opinion, this gives it real character & kudos & I wouldn't change it. In fact the only thing I have changed on this guitar are the non original roller string trees it had fitted when it came in. I had some period correct ones which I have now put on.
The guitar looks great & the build quality is as you would expect. You own't find another one of these guitars outside Japan unless it has been imported. I think it's great & like all JV's is very sought after so I don't expect it to be around for long.
Please check out the photos in the gallery where I have shown all the scrapes & bumps as best I can. There is also a photo of the pencil dating on the heel of the neck (07.01.83) The other good news is that the frets are in good shape with plenty of life.

As stated many times, due to courier damage, all my guitars are shipped in hard cases (usually new) this one being a plain black one. I do have a tweed option and these are a little dearer (extra £10). If you prefer that, please email me for details. If you are collecting, I'm happy to knock off the price of the case (About £30) & I may even have an old gig bag you can have to take it away in
So to sum up, a nice, if a little roadworn JV Squier. This model is near impossible to find here in the UK.
