Matsumoku Built 1980 Bass Guitar
Westbury Guitars & Basses were built at the Matsumoku factory in Japan during the late 70's & early 80's. The Westbury bass range was quite limited with Track 2 & Track 4 models only (built 1979-82). The Track 2 had just one pickup & a bolt on neck but the Track 4 was a far superior model with a set neck & two pickups. It also has a carved Maple top quite similar to the Westbury Custom guitar.
Westbury guitars & basses are always very sought after, not only because of the build quality but also because some models were fitted with USA Dimarzio pickups. Now, the suggestion is that Dimarzio built all the pickups for the Westbury guitars & basses but I'm not entirely sure. I have had Westbury guitars with Dimarzio Stamped pickups but there are no markings that I could find on these pickups so I think it more likely that the pickups were Japanese made Maxon pickups which Matsumoku fitted to a lot of their other models. Still great sounding pickups & if anyone knows better than this, please let me know
This particular Bass is in remarkably good condition for an instrument soon to have it's 40th birthday! It's all original & other than a few small nicks around the body & a few minor bumps on the back it's looking fabulous. The only small issue I noticed was a small crack on the chrome plated bridge. I would think that it has been there for years and it in no way affects the playability but I just wanted to point it out. It can't be seen when the bass is strung so I have put a photo of it in the photo gallery.
The bass is full sized with a scale length of 34", two a side tuners, twin pickups & two volume controls & a tone blend control. The pots were a bit scratchy when it came in but I've since cleaned them up & they work silently now
