1986 Fender Japan ST72-70 US Stratocaster in  Natural & new hard case

This 1986 Fender Japan Stratocaster is from the CST range built for the domestic (Japanese) market in the late 80s. CST actually stands for "Current Stratocaster" referring to what was being made in the USA the time. At the time, Fender Japan were also making the "Contemporary Series" which were exported to the UK & other countries. The Contemporary series had features like Floyd Rose licensed tremolos, locking tuners, colour matched headstocks & H/S/S & H/H configurations. As you can see, this guitar is really just a 70s reissue Stratocaster.

This guitar is fitted with US pickups. It was fitted with US pickups from new but I believe these pickups have been changed to Fender Classic Series (as shown before). These pickups are stamped with the number 016730. These particular pickups also have white handwritten numbers on the back (see gallery photographs) which read 54172.02. An internet seach throws up forums which identify the pickups as Fender Classic Series 60s pickups. The pickups all give readings of around 5.4k. The pots have all been upgraded to CTS pots with an orange drop capacitor. The 5 way switch looks to be a USA Grigsby replacement too

With it's one piece Maple neck, skunk stripe and 7.25" radius fretboard this is, as usual an excellent reissue Stratocaster. This one has an authentic 3 ply 11 hole pickguard as well as a 3 hole neck plate with micro-tilt adjustment

This guitar is in very good condition for it's 35 year age. There are some dents  and scratches on the body which I have not repaired as they reflect the natural aging of the guitar. Please check out all of the photos in the gallery. The backplate is missing and unfortunately cannot be replaced due to size differences replaced.  When I gave it a quick set up, the intonation was spot on and the action was very good.

So, to sum up, a very nice example of a vintage Fender Japan Stratocaster. Built at the Fujigen factory just after the JV series guitars but with the benefit of upgraded pickups & electrics.

Hard Case

As said many times, all my guitars come shipped in a new black hard case which is included in the price. I find this is the safest way to avoid damage in transit. This case can be upgraded to a very nice tweed one but these are an additional £12 each at present. Please contact me before purchasing if you would like this. Alternatively, if you are collecting the guitar and, like some buyers have cases coming out of their ears, that's no problem, I'll adjust the price (usually around a £30 discount) and I can usually find you an old gigbag to take the guitar away in. The only hard and fast rule I have is that i won't ship a guitar in a gigbag
