JAPAN IMPORT

Built by Fender Japan as a limited edition "domestic market only" copy of Keith Richards legendary "Sonny" telecaster, this guitar incorporates the same specifications as Keith's guitar with a brass plate bridge & brass saddles, open humbucker in the neck position & vintage single coil at the bridge. It's a real beauty and tough to find outside Japan.

This guitar has been well looked after with only a small amount of wear. There are a few scratches on the body & a few nicks and dents around the edges but overall it's in great condition & the frets show little wear. The brass bridge was badly tarnished when it came in but it's been cleaned up and re-lacquered  so should be good for another 20 years :)

I found some more information on these guitars online

1997-2000 Fender "Sonny" vintage reissue '67 Telecaster. The only iteration ever offered by Fender of Keith Richard's #2 Tele "Sonny" this rare and long ago discontinued Tele model (officially model TL67-80SPL) was produced in particularly small numbers and was offered only in the Japanese domestic market.

While Keef's "Micawber" Telecaster often gets the majority of the limelight, his Tele "Sonny" is an equally vital part of the Stones' sound, featuring an Ash body, Maple cap fretboard, solid brass bridge, and pickup compliment which includes a full-size humbucker in the neck position. While the bridge position is snappy and snarling, the neck pickup offers ample warmth and power, accentuating the clarity and midrange presence of the solid ash body.

The Maple neck has a medium C shape that borders on the chunkier side of things, with lots of shoulder and a bit more roundness and depth as you travel up the fretboard. The profile measures 21.5mm deep at the 1st fret and 24.76mm at the 12th, with a smooth gloss finish. Unusual in its construction, this neck features no walnut "skunk stripe" on the back, closely matching actual production methods for 1967. As a Maple fretboard was a special order in that year, the fretboard is a separate piece of wood capped on the maple neck.  The nut measures 41mm in width, and the headstock features original Gotoh tuners which have buttons that closely mimic the style on Keith's Tele.

The stock electronics function as intended, with a Fender "Dragster" humbucker in the neck position and a "TL-Vintage" bridge position single coil. The solid brass Schaller bridge is an essential part of the tone and distinctive visual look of Sonny. Other hardware includes a clean chrome control plate, barrel knobs, and "F" neck plate

As stated many times, due to courier damage, all my guitars are shipped in hard cases (usually new) this one being a plain black one. I do have a tweed option and these are a little dearer (extra £12). If you prefer that, please email me for details. If you are collecting, I'm happy to knock off the price of the case (About £30) & I may even have an old gig bag you can have to take it away in

If you are further interested in this guitar, you can either email me with any queries & I'll do my best to get back to you within 24 hours.
