1990's Yamaha Japan SA-2200 Super Axe Brown Sunburst & Original hard case.
£1199.00
JAPAN IMPORT
The Yamaha "Super Axe" range have been around since the late 1970's however this "top of the range" SA-2200 didn't appear until the early 1990's
The SA-2200 is a copy of a 335 but with push/push tone pots which split the coils giving a great single coil sound. The guitar also has gold coloured hardwear, an Ebony fretboard, Block inlays on the fretboard and a flamed Maple laminated top. A really high end guitar that plays just as good as it looks.
As stated, this model has been around since the early 90's. You can still get a new one today but the price is just under £2,000. This particular guitar was imported from Japan by me and from the finish and overall look I would date it as one of the early ones. It has a sticker on the back of the headstock which reads "Yamaha R&D Tokyo" there is also no paper label inside the F hole. It's either come away & been lost or it was never there as this was one of the earliest models. I queried it when I imported it & was told that it was not unusual with the very early models. It does have some chips and marks as shown in the photos so please examine all the gallery photos. If you're after a pristine model then this won't be it. There is a lacquer crack on the bottom edge near the strap button and some flaked lacquer at the back of the neck. This is all cosmetic and doesn't affect the playability which is superb as you would expect & I personally prefer the aged look to a shiny new one.
These guitars really do play well & I love the Yamaha pickups.
Overall, I would describe the condition as very good. The neck is straight and the frets have some wear but still plenty of life & no indents.
