1988 Yamaha Japan SG-2000 Black & new hard case

Yamaha Japan do make an excellent guitar & this is one of their best. The SG range actually began in the 1960's & Yamaha produced an SG-7 the "SG" stands for "Solid Guitar" in 1975, they approached produced an ornate guitar for Carlos Santana, the SG-175. Apparently Carlos liked it but still wanted some changes like a heavier body & thicker frets to improve the sustain. Yamaha went back & in 1977, the result was the SG-2000 that we all know & love today. This particular example is dated as 1988 from the serial number & is one of 100 guitars imported in 1993. There is a photo of the Certificate of Authenticity in the gallery

This guitar has a solid Mahogany body and the SG-2000 has a carved, mildly figured three-piece maple top, with the grain of the center section set perpendicular to the sides. Instead of a set neck, it features a three-piece mahogany/maple/mahogany laminated neck-through design conducive to greater sustain. The body wings consisted of a “sandwich” of laminated mahogany and maple. In order to enhance sustain, the SG-2000 had a brass block under the bridge

Yamaha SG-2000's of this era were fitted with Spinex Pickups both of which have push/push coil splitting.

The finish is a lovely gloss black & the guitar has gold Yamaha tuners & hardwear. It really is a beautifully made guitar.

As stated, the fretboard is Ebony with beautiful block inlays

The overall condition is excellent for a 34 year old guitar although there are a few small knocks and dents around the edges as shown in the photographs. I haven't repaired anything on this guitar. You will notice a couple of tiny headstock chips on the gallery photos.  There is also a broken catch on the Yamaha hard case. When the guitar came in there were some slight indents on the frets. I decided to have a full fret dress & professional set up carried out by Kent based luthier, Andy Crockett. This has now been done & there are close ups of the frets in the gallery photos.

The guitar plays beautifully as you would expect. Straight neck, low action and great pickups.

Hard Case

As said many times, all my guitars come shipped in a new black hard case which is included in the price. I find this is the safest way to avoid damage in transit.  Alternatively, if you are collecting the guitar and, like some buyers have cases coming out of their ears, that's no problem, I'll adjust the price (usually around a £30 discount) and I can usually find you an old gigbag to take the guitar away in. The only hard and fast rule I have is that I won't ship a guitar in a gigbag

If you are further interested in this guitar, you can either email me with any queries & I'll do my best to get back to you within 24 hours.

Or, you can buy easily and safely using the PayPal "buy now" button. Don't forget to select the right option using the drop down menu on price, i.e. Collection, UK shipping or EU shipping. If in doubt, please email me first as Highlands & Islands can sometimes be a little dearer for shipping
